There’s nothing more comforting than a big bowl of pasta, but traditional wheat products are usually highly processed and refined, leaving few useful nutrients. Wheat is difficult to digest and can encourage inflammation in the body. Spelt on the other hand, along with other ancient grains like quinoa, amaranth and millet, has not been refined in the same way, so is far more nutritious, and (for most people), really well tolerated.

Here’s a quick and easy recipe to wow and woo your valentine, with not one but two flavours of beautifully ‘buttery’ shortbread, without the butter! These Lemon & Poppyseed and Macadamia Nut & Dark Choc Chip lovehearts are sure to melt even the hardest of hearts.
There was a Valentines’ Coffee Morning at Pre-School this morning, so these fitted the bill perfectly. Super-quick to throw together, (though they do need an hour of chilling in the fridge – you can be chilling elsewhere), using one big batch of dough to make two different flavours makes it look like you’ve put in far more effort than you really have… bonus! Salty, spicy, smoky and sweet – these warm toasted six-spiced party nuts are the perfect sophisticated nibble to serve with drinks. A bit more special and ‘homemade’ than a bowl of crisps, they will take less than 15 minutes from turning on the oven to handing round in a bowl, and are most definitely worth the effort.
