    Oaty Banana Smoothie Bowl

    JUMP TO RECIPE

Veganuary-heartBreakfasts during Veganuary have often looked a bit like this, a concoction known as 'Smorridge' in our house... a cross between a smoothie and porridge.  The great thing about smorridge, (or an oaty smoothie bowl if you prefer), is that it has all the advantages of porridge, (keeping you full until lunchtime, lots of health benefits of eating oats regularly, oh and tasting awesome), but without the need for all that stirring and waiting... I'm not very good at either of those first thing in the morning.

I know trendy green smoothies are REALLY good for you, (usually made from a handful of spinach, half an avocado, a squeeze of lime and maybe an ice cube if you're really pushing the boat out), but I just can't keep going 'till lunchtime without something a bit more substantial.

These oaty smoothie bowls really hit the spot - much better for you than a bowl of sugary cereal, but a hearty and protein-packed start to the day.

And 'smoothie bowl art' becomes quite addictive.... a pale cream smoothie like this one is a perfect canvas for all sorts of gorgeous sprinkles to arrange artistically: fruits, seeds, nuts, berry powders or even shavings of very dark chocolate.  Gorgeous.

A good quality high-speed blender is a must if you're using oats in your smoothie, (and the same goes for woody kale stalks, seedy raspberries etc).  My trusty Optimum 9200A makes very light work of this so it isn't in the slightest bit grainy, but a lesser beast or hand blender won't really cut the mustard, (or oats), here.

Smorridge is a perfect new word! I love it! I do wish I loved bananas though, my total dislike of them is hampering my smorridge adventures! - I wonder if I could replace it with avocado?

These are beautiful! I've seen lots of berry-based smoothie bowls, but I love the idea of a banana smoothie to give a blank canvas for all the pretty toppings 🙂

Ooh this would really keep me going before the gym and the peanut butter gives it a nice protein bump!

I have to say I don't see the point of fruit based smoothie bowls - why not just drink them?? - but this makes total sense. I love it. Pinned!

Oh I do love a good banana smoothie and oats make it so substantial. Nice finishing touches too. Stumbled, pinned and yummed.
